We believe in the future of Nicaraguan Childrens. “Adopt a Child for Education”!

This program has been designed exclusively to change the lives of Nicaraguan indigent children through an education and introduce them to society. By an act of charity, a child’s future will be changed. You will save them from becoming a drug addict, a criminal, or jail bound, which is what becomes of these poor children often. On the contrary, by love, a child will be receiving a Catholic education and will learn good principles and morals to become a better person. To accomplish our endeavor, we make a call to the entire Body of Jesus to come to our assistance by joining this education program.

These children of God pay a tremendous price for their illiteracy. They need intellectual, emotional, and spiritual help for a better life. The Catholic Church, Pope Francis, and his predecessors, remind us that we have an obligation to try to help those who do not have the resources that we often take for granted. The followers of Jesus cannot turn a blind eye or ignore this horrendous humanitarian crisis.

St. Hermano Pedro de Betancourt

Hermano Pedro de Betancurt was born a poor shepherd in 1626 at Chasna de Vilaflor on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. He died in 1667 in Guatemala. His parents raised him soundly in the faith, and as a young boy, he learned to see God in everything around him. He was canonized on July 30, 2002 by Pope John Paul II who said, he was an “outstanding example” of Christian mercy, and that he practiced mercy “heroically, with the lowest and most deprived.” Peter wanted to be a priest, but God had other plans for him. He set out for Guatemala to join a relative. He enrolled in the Jesuit College of San Borja to become a priest and tried hard, but he could not master the material. He withdrew from school and later became a Franciscan tertiary. He saw in the poor the face of “the Child Jesus” and served them devoutly. He became everything for everyone and alleviated the suffering of the less fortunate. Three years later, he opened Our Lady of Bethlehem, a hospital for the convalescent poor, a shelter for the homeless, a school for the poor, and an oratory. He also founded the first Bethlehemite Congregation.

The school was founded in 1966 by Father Otto Samayoa, a missionary priest from Guatemala and a devoted follower of Hemanao Pedro de Betancourt. He came to Nicaragua with the sole purpose to build a school, following the steps of Hermano Pedro de Betancourt. Encarnacion Peters donated an acre of land for the school construction, but unfortunately the earthquake of 1972 teared down the two story building. In 1973, the school principal, Father Mariano, received help from The Rotary Club and built a one story building with 15 classrooms; enough to have room for 700 students from Pre-K, Elementary, and High school.

Pedro de Betancourt Parochial School is a Catholic Elementary School and an educational institution with Catholic values, ethnic, and moral principals. We promote the fundamental development of childhood and youth through a superior education that helps the students in their personal, social, intellectual, and spiritual development, which allows them to incorporate themselves into society. Our vision is to form students worthy of solidarity; bound by love, dialogue, respect, and truth, and encourage them to be a constant of change in society through the gospel values.

Where your donation goes?

It is very important for the credibility of the ministry to give evidence to our sponsors how their act of charity has worked through the years for the benefit and wellbeing of their sponsor children. I want to assure that when someone opens their heart and sponsors a child, I personally monitor that child and expect at least an 80% GPA and I am on top of the school behavior and report card every quarter. The child is aware that they’re grades are monitored and has a responsibility that has to be accomplished to keep the scholarship. These children of God come from such a great poverty, and would never have had the opportunity to change their futures. You have made an investment in the Will of God and it will be plenty gratified by Him. You cannot even envision how you have changed the lives of these children spiritually, psychologically, intellectually. Their entire future and the horizon of their life have been changed for the better. You and every single sponsor are introducing them to God and society.
